A Ritual to Read to Each Other

If you don’t know the kind of person I am
and I don’t know the kind of person you are
a pattern that others made may prevail in the
and following the wrong god home we may miss
           our star.
For it is important that awake people be awake,
or a breaking line may discourage them back to
the signals we give — yes or no, or maybe —
should be clear: the darkness around us is deep.

Like many I was appalled by the outcome of the presidential election. But I was gratified to see so many people turning to poetry for solace, insight, and inspiration. William Stafford was and remains one of our finest poets; over and over he expresses our humanity, our struggles to connect, our aspirations.
I have been working on my own writing—both poetry and prose—and will share some of the results here. I am in the process of migrating my blog from Blogspot. If you want to have a look, it’s over here:
