Reading Reminders

April (and May!) continue to provide many opportunities to hear excellent poetry, Tomorrow, April 8, the DC Poet Project continues with two fine D.C. Poets, Joseph Ross and Danielle Evennou, followed by an open mic. The event takes place from 2-4 p.m. at the Anacostia Neighborhood Library. The winner of the open mic will join the two previous winners on Saturday, May 13, at 3:00 p.m. The audience will vote to choose which open mic poet will win a cash award and publication of a chapbook of her/his work.

Then, on Sunday, April 9, the Moving Words awards reading takes place at 4:00 p.m. at Iota Club and Cafe, followed by the monthly Iota Poetry Series. I am honored to be one of this year’s winners, along with my dearest friend, Naomi Thiers, and four other fine poets, along with Arlington County Poet Laureate Katherine Young.

I will also be reading at April’s Hear at Martha’s event on Tuesday, April 18, at 7:00 p.m., again with Naomi and other top area poets.

Finally, check out Naomi’s wonderful poem, “Refugee, 15,” published today on Bourgeon online.
