And the winner is…

The DC Poet Project reading series culminated on Saturday May 15 with a reading by the four poets chosen from the open mics, after which the audience chose the winner of the cash prize and publication by Day Eight of a chapbook of poems. All the readers were excellent and presented fine work, but in the end, only one could be chosen and the audience’s choice was Susan Meehan, a long-time DC resident and poet, but a first-time book author.

Susan is now working with us to finalize her manuscript and prepare it for publication. We will celebrate the release of the book with two launch parties in late summer. I’ll do a post about those when the time gets closer.

As Board Chair of Day Eight and director of the reading series, I am extremely proud and thrilled at both the outcome of the series and the project as a whole. We congratulate Susan and look forward to producing similar projects in the future.

On a related note, I’m delighted to post links to two recent publications:

The Texture of Water on In Between Hangovers

Another excerpt from “Anxiety Journal” on Pre-Existing Conditions

After reading the latter, explore the site more fully. Maggie Felisberto is publishing beautiful and necessary work by writers whose health and, in some cases, lives are threatened by the repeal of Obamacare and its replacement by Trumpcare.
